Study Grants 101

THERE are lots of ways in obtaining a study grant if you want to continue your education to college and even beyond. Even certain institutions now offer study grants to deserving scholars who prefer to study online or through correspondence colleges. These lucky souls do have relaxed lives since studying online or through correspondence colleges means studying at your own pace – and someone is paying for you to do so. But in most instances, online scholars have their day jobs and they pursue courses online so they’ll get promoted.
There are many ways in obtaining a college grant. If you’re granted one, your tuition may be paid in full or in half. Then you will get more monetary incentives as the scholar granter will give you allowance for the entire duration of the course which is mostly pegged at four years. But before you can obtain a study grant, you must be an indigent in most instances. The rationale behind this is that affluent parents can easily pay the tuition of their kids while persons who direly want to go to college cannot afford to do so. A prospective scholar also needs to pass first the rigid qualifying exam and interview. There are even instances that interviewers are so strict they’ll scare you to death. Then you must pass all exams in the courses at a certain level too so that your study grant will be continued.
If you’re an African American, you can take advantage of the United Negro College Fund. Based in Fairfax, Virginia, the United Negro College Fund maintains 65,000 scholars in more than 900 universities and colleges across the United States. Many of their scholars ultimately become shining stars in their respective fields like Martin Luther King Jr., Spike Lee and Samuel L. Jackson. So if you’re an African American and you live in a rather slum area, don’t be desperate. There is much hope for you.
There are private corporations too who offer scholarships to poor but bright new high school graduates across the nation. The reason behind their seeming generosity is that they’ll be given huge tax incentives by the government for propagating those study grants. Some of the huge corporations offering study grants are Wal-Mart, Coca Cola, AT&T, Exxon Mobil, McDonalds, Best Buy, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Xerox and Time Warner. Exxon Mobil adopts engineering scholars, AT&T adopts computer scholars, Best Buy gives out 1,700 study grants each year at a one-time dole out of $10,000, Kentucky’s Fried Chicken has their so-called Colonel’s scholar in ode to their trademark, Time Warner offers $2,000 to its scholars and Xerox gives study grants to students of the sciences.
Corporate scholarships are a different story. If you want to go up the corporate ladder in a faster way, then apply for corporate study grants. The organization you’re in will finance your tuition so you can be promoted to a higher position. Please note though that it is at the organization’s discretion to grant the scholarship for you although there are some instances that you have to apply for it.
